captain eo
In its day, Captain EO was one of the best 3D films in the country. It had the star power of Michael Jackson on the screen and George Lucas behind it, catchy songs, and amazing visuals. What else could you ask for in a theme park show? The premise of the show is simple, but effective. It inspires you and makes you feel good, but it isn't tacky. Eventually, it just became plain outdated. It could of used some of that George Lucas editing already released movie magic, but alas, it was shown the door in favor of Rick Moranis and Eric Idle. It eventually saw the light of day again in 2010, but it looked even worse then ever. Age did not help this film at all, and it needs replaced at Epcot for something else. But in Tomorrowland 2055 though, that's another story. The creators are still around and in good terms with Disney, and there are other pop stars to take the reigns. Special effects have increased tenfold since the 80's, and a movie of this scope could work spectacularly. The first task is to find the next Captain. As I brainstormed, there were Usher, Bruno Mars, and , yes, Kanye West. The first name I eliminated is Usher because he sort of washed up, and Bruno Mars brings the same aspects; silky smooth vocals and dance moves. That leaves us with Mars and Mr. West. You may be thinking, "What is Matt smoking even thinking Kanye?" and you are right. I sort of thought of it as a joke at first after rewatching a video of Kanye dancing pretty horribly, but then my mind took me in this certain, darker direction. What if Kanye, in his Yeesus mask and autotuned singing, is the ominous, loner pilot without the goofy friends who everyone else can't understand? And it clicked, Kanye West is Captain EO.
So here we are, Mr. West is in the building. Now that we are reimagining the whole concept, we need new music. And Mr. West is a musician. Mr. West is also an artist, whether you like him or not. He has created his own little world that lends itself quite well. Check out some videos on YouTube of The Yeesus Tour, it is something. Now, obviously, this show isn't going to have devils or Jesus Christ running around, but it will fit into the outer space theme. One way this show could be viewed is the reversal of roles with EO being the creepy figure and the Supreme Leader figure being the cheerful one. So, it a nutshell, there will be all new songs, with the first 15 minutes of the show being the intro to EO, his song, and intro to Queen Veronica (Supreme Leader) with a song, and the same planet from the original, but the version after MJ saved the day. By the way, Queen Veronica will be played by the uber talented Kim Kardashian. Of course I am joking, it will be a different close friend of Kanye's, Rihanna. I bet you never thought you would see the day where Kanye and Rihanna were in a Disney show, right? Anyways, back to the story. On the planet's radar, they see EO and believe that he is an enemy, and his spaceship is shot at, which agitates him. EO then starts attacking the planet, which leads to an epic dog fight which eventually ends with EO being shot down and severely injured. Queen Veronica then comes to him and takes off his mask to reveal his identity. She gasps as she sees that it is her long lost brother who was abducted years ago (que sweet flashback scene). She initially rejoices, but then realizes that he is dying and needs help, and what better way to heal him then a song? So Veronica sings to him a quick diddly she sang as a child, and gives him a magic touch, which saves our misunderstood hero. Then, emerging from the sky, we see the group of notorious space pirates that abducted him in the first place, dropping troops of mutants that look like the old EO, and Veronica comes to the conclusion that they are all of the other citizens that were abducted back in the day. So, of course, a massive song breaks out that turn everyone back to their old selves and saves the day. Then we have a reunion song by the whole ensemble, then fade to black. But once the credits roll, we are treated to a new Kanye West rap song, clean of course, that is sure to roll the airways, along with the whole soundtrack. Be sure to check this show out in June 2019.
2019, although it only had one 3D show open, boosted attendance by 8% in the 18-24 demographic. We are almost there, 2020 is the last year of renovations.
